HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa., August 05, 2008—Farlex, Inc., publisher of the world’s most comprehensive online database of reference information (www.TheFreeDictionary.com), announced today that its flagship site has broken a new record, welcoming its one billionth visitor since the website’s launch in the spring of 2003.
TheFreeDictionary.com debuted as a simple, free online dictionary catering to U.S. customers and has since evolved into one of the most authoritative reference sites on the web, serving a global network of users. Today, the site offers access to English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian dictionaries; computing, medical, legal, and financial dictionaries; a thesaurus; several encyclopedias; and much more.
In 2006, Farlex launched TheFreeDictionary’s fully customizable personal homepage. The expanded functionality came as a direct response to user feedback and has become enormously popular. Most recently, Farlex announced the largest single addition of reference material to TheFreeDictionary, including, for the first time, foreign language resources. Among the 13 titles newly published on the site are four non-English dictionaries: Collins French Dictionary & Grammar, Collins Spanish Dictionary & Grammar, Collins German Dictionary & Grammar, and Collins Italian Dictionary & Italian in Action. By expanding the scope of its resources to include titles outside of the English language, TheFreeDictionary.com addressed the multilingual needs of its ever-expanding user base.
Steve Boymel, co-founder and executive vice president of Farlex, Inc. believes the TheFreeDictionary’s continued popularity can be traced to the company’s ongoing commitment to improving the site and to making it the best reference resource on the web. “We are truly and deeply devoted to providing the best service possible to our users, and the fact that we have served a billion visitors in just five years shows us that we continue to grow in the right direction. We are proud to provide the global web-surfing community with such an invaluable reference tool.”
Nick Simonov, co-founder and president of Farlex, Inc., echoes Boymel’s sentiment, saying, “One billion visitors is a testament to the breadth and quality of the information available on TheFreeDictionary.com. We look forward to the coming years with excitement, knowing that the next billion visitors will enjoy using our site as thoroughly as the first billion.”
